Nobody else could hear it, and they couldn't tell by looking at my face that it was going on. It was like an excruciating private torture chamber inside my mind. Not fun at all. The good news is that there is a way to silence cravings forever. The not-so-good news is that it takes a while. With a fork, scrape the ice from the edges toward the center. Repeat 4 times at 30-minute intervals, or until the granita is semifirm. To serve, use a fork to scrape across the surface of the granita, transferring the ice shards to 6 dishes or wineglasses. Serve at once. Per serving: 153 calories 3 g protein 23 g carbohydrates 8 g fat 5 g saturated fat 4 g fiber 64 mg sodium NEGOTIATING A CARB-FILLED WORLD NOW YOU KNOW HOW to eat the Sugar Blockers Diet way. You know what foods you need to cut back on: starches and sugar-containing beverages. You know how to combine sugar blockers like vegetables, nuts, chicken, cheese, and vinegar into scrumptious snacks, salads, and appetizers that will help you avoid dangerous sugar shocks and make it easy to lose weight. You have an arsenal of simple cooking techniques and recipes that you can use to battle the excess insulin that is making you fat. L inguistic then, refers to the communication system. This is how your unconscious mind assigns value to those senses and experiences that you have endured. These are the very words, feelings, pictures, and other senses that you use to associate and give meaning to the world around you. It could be that you define something as bad, or that you immediately feel like your knee hurts again when you see a car because you associate the sight of a car with pain. This is a majorly important point to consider and becomes the point that we try to change when you are looking into the process of using NLP in the first place.

P rogramming refers to the use of all of that information. It is the way in which you communicate within yourself. It may be that your unconscious mind sees a car and quietly leaves you feeling anxious, which then leads to you having a panic attack at the idea of getting in. It could be the way that you tell yourself that you dislike yourself or the way that you behave. It is everything else that is going on within your body. But it does work and, if you stick at it, it's a permanent fix. The solution? Ignore them. If you ignore the cravings, hard as it is at first, they will slowly fade and lessen over time to where they hardly pop up at all. I'm over eight years sober now and I can't remember the last time a thought entered my brain trying to convince me to drink. Certainly it was well over five years ago. I'm reluctant to put an exact timeframe on when cravings end as it's likely to be different for everyone (as are most things in recovery, and in life), but I can guarantee you that, if you resist and ignore them for long enough, eventually the cravings will stop. That's the long-term fix: resist and they'll fade to nothing. But what to do in the short term while you're resisting and being tortured in your own mind? Firstly, think of HALTS. But I know you're busy and don't always have time to cook. Some days you barely have a minute to eat! And what do you do when you're at a business lunch or a friend's potluck dinner, or rushing through the airport, and it seems the only things to eat are chips and cookies? In this article, I'll share with you a few tricks I've learned through my years of sugar blocking that will help you navigate the carb-filled waters of the modern diet. SUGAR-BLOCKING TRICKS

One good thing about starch is that it's easy to see. You don't need to memorize the list of starch-containing foods in article 8 to know what to avoid. However, if there is any doubt about how much a particular snack might raise your blood sugar, you can draw some useful conclusions by looking at the ingredient list on the package label. Use Ingredient Lists to Estimate Glycemic Load Your rule of thumb: Remember the unlucky number 13. It is how you communicate with yourself and with other people. It is meant to help you achieve a goal of some sort. In the anxiety instance, it could be that the end goal is to help you stay safe. Your mind thinks that you want to stay safe, so it makes you afraid, and that keeps you out of a car--which is what got you into trouble in the first place. W hen it comes right down to it, then, NLP takes into consideration the culmination of your senses, your words that you use to describe what you are going through, and the way that you respond to the world around you. All of this is thrown together to create the end result of you and your behaviors. It also looks at the fact that, out of all of that, you do have some degree of control--particularly over the linguistic portion of what is happening to you. You can change the way that you think about the world so you can then change the way that you behave in the world. When you learn to take control of how you feel, you can then ensure that you can better deal with just about anything. You can defeat your negativity. If you're having a craving ask yourself whether you are Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired or Stressed? Often it's one of these sensations or emotions that is causing us to crave. What can you do to address your need that isn't imbibing alcohol? Maybe you need to eat, let off steam, reach out to connect with someone, have a nap or a bubble bath, or do something lovely and nurturing. Next, think: Delay and distract.

Get busy to get your mind off the craving. I used to clean the house hard-out. Other people go for a run (good for the thighs! Do whatever you need to in order to take your mind off the urge. Cravings tend to come in waves, so if you delay and distract for long enough the intensity will pass and you can relax a little. That's how many grams of carbohydrates are in a slice of white bread. If something contains fewer than 13 grams of carbohydrates, you know that it can't raise your blood sugar higher than a slice of white bread would. A slice of white bread has a glycemic load of 100, so the glycemic load of the food in question must be less than 100. For example, if the package ingredient list says that a square of chocolate contains 4 grams of carbohydrates, under the worst-case scenario--if you absorbed it as fast as white bread--it couldn't raise your blood sugar as much as a slice of white bread would, simply because it doesn't contain enough carbs. You can be more exact than that. Because the chocolate square has less than half the carbs of a slice of white bread, you can conclude that its glycemic load is less than half that of a slice of white bread--less than 50. That means you could eat two squares and not exceed a glycemic load of 100. You still don't know how fast the carbs would be absorbed--the other ingredients in the chocolate (fats in the chocolate, for instance, or nuts) could act as sugar blockers and reduce the glycemic load further. All you can say is that even if its carbs were absorbed as fast as those in white bread, the glycemic load would still be less than 100. Build a Starch Pile You can take back control. You can make sure that your programming aligns with what you want it to become. The Benefits of NLP When it comes right down to it, NLP can offer endless benefits to you. When you learn how to control the way that you think, you can influence so much of what you are doing, and that is something that you should remember to take control of.

The fact that you learn how you can better control yourself means that you are able to ensure that, at the end of the day, you are the person that you want to be. You can teach yourself to go through life following the patterns of thought that matter to you. You can ensure that, at the end of the day, you will be prepared for anything that is thrown your way, and that is powerful. That is something that you can make total use of to ensure that you do live the life that you want. W ithin this article, however, were are going to get more specific. Sometimes the best thing is to go to bed. Really early if you have to. Like, reeeeeeaaaalllllyy early. It's also helpful to talk about your craving out loud. Say, I'm having an intense craving right now' to whoever is in the room with you, or simply out loud to yourself. Watch and see if that helps take some of the heat out of your inner voice. I can vividly remember saying out loud just a few days after I quit,There's a voice in my head trying to convince me to drink. Finally, visualise. Push your thoughts forward through the evening and visualise yourself climbing into bed sober. Visualise yourself laying your clear head on the pillow and sleeping well all night. You don't need to be good at math to put this technique to work, but you do need to know how to use a knife and fork. If your mother scolded you for picking at your food and praised you for being a member of the Clean Plate Club, it's time to disobey Mom and join the Messy Plate Club. Just because someone puts a bunch of starch on your plate doesn't mean you have to eat it all. The cook might be miffed if you don't eat the entree, but nobody's feelings are going to be hurt if you leave some potatoes on your plate. In fact, it's good manners to leave a little food uneaten;
