If we get acid indigestion every time after we eat pizza, then it's probably safe to say that pizza causes this effect on our system. Or if a basket of chips and salsa make us feel greasy, then that's the effect of chips and salsa. COURAGE: LET ME COUNT THE WAYS While we often think of courage as an individual act of bravery, there are also categories of courage to which we might aspire. Here's my short list: There is courage in taking action. We take on a new challenge we prefer to avoid. We get on a plane, apply for a job, buy a bicycle, study for the GED, put aside time in the morning to write, take a Spanish class. There is courage in speaking. We voice our differences, we share real feelings, we address a painful emotional issue, open a family secret, tell the truth. We take a clear position on things that matter to us. We clarify the limits of what we can or can't do. To give you a boost after a poor night's sleep? A coffee date with a friend? Or perhaps you simply like the taste? Record your wellbeing temperature before and after having a drink. Does that coffee before a stressful team meeting (RED) allow you to become more focused (BLUE)? Does that after-dinner espresso with friends (BLUE) suddenly see you bouncing off the walls come bedtime (ORANGE)? How do you respond to caffeine? If you find that your temperature is consistently red or orange post-caffeine consumption, or you find yourself reaching for a caffeinated drink through habit, procrastination or boredom, try to substitute it with a decaffeinated alternative.

Be mindful that some decaffeinated teas and coffees, however, may still contain caffeine. Is it worth considering whether your late-night caffeinated beverage is really a sign that you should call it a night and get some sleep instead? Then your brain will be ready for all the important things you need to learn! LOVE MYSELF If you're facing a challenge at school, try to: You are not in this alone. Your schoolwork is important, but so are you! MY FEELINGS AND HOBBIES Earlier in the article, I told you that I was a cheerleader in school. It was just one of the things I liked to do as a kid. You may also cheer or play a sport. You might make crafts, dance, or play an instrument. That is disappointment. Here are some examples: Disappointment I'm a failure at relationships. This relationship didn't work out the way I expected. No one will ever love me again. I'm sad that John doesn't love me, but I know my friends and family love me. Here I am alone again.

What a failure. It's a real setback that the relationship I counted on is over. It can help decide the required program model, which involves the duration of stay, by collaborating with experts. Though opioid addiction services may be contacted explicitly about their treatment offerings, it is never a bad idea to seek a treatment professional's guidance and obey their rehabilitation program's guidelines. You have the opportunity to bring what you learned into effect when you quit the opioid rehab program. To help you succeed in life, you can use those coping mechanisms. Know that support is available if you think you missed your opportunity to get clean and sober. If you have just begun abusing drugs and alcohol or have had a problem for years, you can still opt to admit yourself to an addiction treatment program. This is how we would adopt the treatment protocol, use cognitive therapy, and get free from alcohol abuse. Internet addiction, particularly among adolescents and adults, has become a social and public health issue. This article aims to describe Internet addiction and explore the method of treating Internet addiction using the Internet Addiction Model (CBT-IA) cognitive-behavioral therapy. I have opted to concentrate on research on the definition, prevalence, risk factors, harmful effects, and treatment modalities of Internet addiction, focus on CBT-IA. I believe that all speakers want to give hope to their audiences. Today, we live in a world where doom and gloom seem to exist, and as a speaker you must be a conveyer of hope, encouraging people and lifting them up, whether giving quarterly results or a project status report. After all, the promise of hope and change won Barack Obama the US presidential election in 2008. The third point is to inform. One way to do this is to raise the audience's level of awareness of a particular subject or cause. Another way is to teach them a valuable lesson by sharing a particular story or sharing a concept that can help them in some capacity. Influence through Stories The ability to tell stories is powerful because we remember stories.

We relate to stories because they connect points. People may not remember your point, but they will remember your story. You are not owed anything for your past troubles or even because you have been kind and put the needs of others before your own. That is another flawed logic some people develop, that they will someday be rewarded for behaving in a self-sacrificing fashion. Unfortunately, no one is going to notice how good of a person you have been and how much you have given up and give you whatever you want for that. This type of thinking will only lead to disappointment and anger. The person you will become will not be a good one. Let's say you wish you could start a business. Find out what it takes to create one. Get a solid idea of what you would want to sell. Think about whether you are aiming for business to business-b2b--or business to customer--b2c. Talk to people about your idea. If we feel fat and guilty every time we eat a certain dessert, then fat and guilty are the effects of that dessert. The specific list of causes and effects are different for each individual, and it's your choice (and I would argue, your responsibility) to pay attention enough to be able to clearly know what your list is. And we also know from experience that what we eat has a next-day effect as well. An overindulgence of rich foods and heavy sauces or an excess of sugar can give us a kind of food hangover the morning after. We might have a headache, or nausea, or feel clammy or crampy, or simply off our game. Certain foods disagree with us every time we eat them but we keep on eating them because for whatever reason we like the idea of them, or fail to connect the dots between the cause and effect. This can become particularly challenging if we have a delayed sensitivity. The point is that the way specific foods act and react with our specific metabolisms is a topic that requires our self-honesty.

Being realistic can give us a sense of power and control over the way that we feel, our health, and our happiness. When we eat this, we feel terrible. We speak not with the intention of getting comfortable but with the intention of being our best selves, even though we may be shaking in our boots. There is courage in questioning. We ask questions about anxious emotional issues in our family history. We ask our partner questions that will allow us to know him or her more fully. When people we love have suffered, we invite them to tell us their stories, no matter how painful, rather than communicating that we don't want to hear it, or don't want to hear all of it. We ask, Is there more you'd like to share? There is courage in pure listening. We practice listening with an open heart, and with the intention only to understand. We listen without defensiveness, and without the need to fix, instruct, or change the other person. We mindfully choose silence over speech, and resist saying the wrong thing at the tempting moment. What alternative activities might prove a better option for you? Look back at your evening curfew (article 144) to think about non-stimulating activities that you can do instead. Supplements The role diet has to play in optimizing our mental and physical wellbeing is often marketed as going beyond the food we eat, with the mention of supplements never far from earshot. Figures in the last four years suggest that the UK's vitamin and supplementation market is worth more than L450 million and growing, with almost two-thirds of us taking some form of supplement daily or occasionally each year. As someone who finds the supplementation arena a difficult place to navigate, I invite Renee and Jenny once again to share their expertise. Is there a role for prebiotics and probiotics in enhancing cognitive function and improving our mental wellbeing? Renee: I think we are not yet able to extrapolate the data of the studies we do have;
